So, you know a reader? What are they like? My 3,888 books on my TBR list want to know!!!! I mean, I do too, but let’s be honest… a reader KNOWS a fellow reader.
I can explain. There is this amazing woman I call Mom who introduced me to the literary world at the age of 0. She read to me while she was pregnant. She read to me every night as far back as I can recall. She took me to libraries where I would walk out with as many books as I could carry. Then I grew up, so she stopped reading to me. And I read on my own.
There have been seasons of reading, months or sometimes even years, where I hardly read a thing. But books were always in the back of my mind, just waiting for me to start back up again.
Then there’s the season I’m in now, where I can read a book a day and immediately begin the next one. (That’s TOUGH with 5 kids, but I manage somehow!)
Which circles us back to… 3,888. I mean, how many of the 500 or so physical books I already have sitting here on shelves and any other flat surface I can find are already buried somewhere in the 3,888??!! Your guess is as good as mine.
So you see my problem? I absolutely adore reading. Reading can take me to places I’ll never go in real life, HELLO NARNIA! Maybe I’ll meet Mary, Queen of Scots and hear her tell stories and order folks around. Perhaps I get lost in some European City and find myself on the street outside of Shakespeare & Co bookstore and HAVE TO GO IN!!
Books are pure magic.
Add to that the fact that we’re fortunate enough to have Kindles, or whatever your favorite type of e-reader is, and you can DOWNLOAD WHOLE BOOKS, which requires zero space at home!! I’ve recently fallen prey to this particular hobby – which has resulted in 100+ additional books that I’ve snagged when they show up for free on Amazon – yes, FREE. Check out Freebooksy.com!!
I mean, last year, I was stuck – yes, stuck – in Colorado… and we were staying with one of my best friends who happens to enjoy thrifting. Well… I may or may not have gone thrifting, only to walk out of each store with 10-20 books because, THRIFTING!!! And then, eventually, I had to figure out how I was getting all those books back home… to Missouri. So, yes, I have a problem.
But I wouldn’t change it. Well, maybe I’d change the fact that I deliberately plan HUGE road trips to coincide with MASSIVE book sales…. that are 25 hours away. Oh wait, no, I wouldn’t LOL. Speaking of, well, that’s a whole other rabbit hole!
Let’s get back to this reader, you know. What do they like? Personally, I’m up for a lot of variety. Historical fiction, mystery, thriller, biography, romance, crime, paranormal, family sagas, autobiography, self-help, travel, photography. Something that teaches me something new.
No matter what your reader enjoys, or what you enjoy, I’m just so thankful that it is one of my hobbies. I mean, it could’ve been smoking, drinking, or gambling – so I guess it’s not too bad?!
Let me know,
Kelly
Oh, It Got Worse 📚
If 3,888 sounded ridiculous, I later went digging through the actual numbers, current reads, series, and all the rabbit holes in My TBR Is Completely Out of Control (And I’m Not Sorry). And now publishers are sending me books, which is how I ended up finishing a review copy and getting to interview the author. This seems unlikely to cure the problem. 😂
